Closure of 'quiet' Road Grasmere to Keswick past the lake 5th November Meeting

 

‘Keep Thirlmere Open’ (See Facebook) has set up a Meeting for Cyclists and Walkers for SUNDAY THE 5^th NOVEMBER at 10.45 on the back road round Thirlmere.
For fuller detail see the post of Mark Hatton on the above group dated the 18^th October for  this ‘.... opportunity for quiet contemplation of the Permanent Closure Decision date .....’.
 If you need to get there by car Paul Ross posted (Facebook) suggestions for parking on the 26^th October.

In short United Utilities seek a Permanent Closure of the road around the far side of the lake on the basis of (United Utilities allege) danger to the public (leaving cyclists with a section of the main A591 which is twisty, undulating, narrow and fast, for motorised vehicles, between Grasmere and Keswick).
Cumberland Council Highways is to consider this Application on the 10^th November.
