2 Bike Ride Sunday 2 nd June

FRENCHFIELD 09:30

I have decided to change the published ride, i.e Appleby to Kirkby Stephen.
The reason is the Appleby Horse Fair is on middle of next week. So anywhere in the vicinity of Appleby will be quite busy !.
Also the weather forecast for Sunday at the moment is Wet & Windy.
So I will be putting a shorter local ride on !.
Staring at Frenchfield, going to Pooley Bridge for 11's, via Lowther and Celleron.
Then on to Upfront Gallery Unthank for Lunch, taking in Dacre, Newbiggin and Great Blencow
Distance will be around 30 miles.
Hope to see some of you at the start.

Club Ride Wednesday 29 May from Clapham

Tomorrow's ride will start from the bridge in Clapham at 0930. From here we will head for Gisburn for 11s and on to Holden Garden Centre for lunch. The return leg will be via Giggleswick for a total distance of 55 miles.
The forecast is looking unpredictable at the moment with the threat of rain by mid afternoon. With this in mind we have options to alter the route accordingly and/or reduce the stops to one.
I hope to see some of you tomorrow.

2 Bike Ride Sunday 26th May

It is forecast to be rather wet and windy tomorrow with rain until coffee time and wind gusting to 35mph at 4 pm.
The planned route is via Great Orton, Monkhill, Beaumont, Burgh by Sands and Thurstonfield arriving at Watchtree Nature Reserve at about 16 miles. Then it is Wiggonby, Aikton Church, Fingland and towards Kirkbride. Anyone relishing adversity can go around the Anthorn Peninsular. Bowness on Solway or Glasson would be shorter and easier. The RSPB Centre at Campsfield was locked at lunchtime today but may be open tomorrow. The alternative is the shelter at Bowness overlooking the Solway for your BYO lunch. Return is via Boustead Hill and Kirkbampton. There will be tea at Dalston for survivors.

TRI-VETS: mid morning and mid afternoon catering

Thanks to those who have already offered to help at Milburn Village Hall for elevenses for all riders and at Dalston Village Hall for the 100 milers in the afternoon. The final number of riders won't be known until the 5th June but the plan is pretty much the same as three years ago. For Milburn I will order scones, tray-bakes etc from Kath Earl (Long Marton). No baking required but lots of helpers needed to set up, serve drinks and clear up. After that we will move to Dalston where the numbers will be smaller. Crumble and custard has been advertised so for anyone willing to make a crumble, the payment rate is 30p per portion! Obviously other food will be available - left-overs from morning and probably cheese.
There is a meeting on Friday 31st May at Daffodil Café, Penrith at 10.00 am. - all welcome - see Bill's blog below which also gives details of how to enter for members riding.
Some helpers may wish to lunch at Newton Rigg. In which case they should contact John R asap. There will be a light lunch at Dalston for helpers.

Mountain Biking, Friday 24 May

Hi All
Start at 9.30. Meet at the Bike shop at the Whinlatter visitor centre. The plan is to do the Blue Run (the less technical). Then decide whether to repeat the Blue Run or to try the Red Run.
If you have never tried out a purpose built trail, this a good opportunity to have a go, they are great.
Best wishes
David

Sunday 12th May - 3 bike ride

The 108 mile ride will start from the river side car park at Langholm at 9am.   The route will be through Eskdalemuir and up the Ettrick Valley to Tushielaw and then into the Yarrow Valley for lunch at the Gordon Arms Hotel near St Mary's Loch - a distance of 35 miles.  (We will not have a 11's stop after all)   After lunch we continue up to Megget Head before dropping down to Tweedsmuir and then the A701 to Moffat and hopefully afternoon tea (32 miles).   The return to Langholm will be via Boreland and Corrie Common.

We may not get back to Langholm until after 6pm.   The route is undulating from the start.   However the scenery is great and the forecast is good.   Most of the 'usual suspects' who would go on a ride like this are doing other things this weekend so I am not really expecting anyone to turn up (yippy !)
But if you would like to come you will be very welcome.   Bring food.

Sunday 11th Les Ride

Two and a halfish  grade and no whizzing as haven’t been on bike since Fife for variety of reasons!

Weather should have improved significantly so may not need winter woolies.

Meet our house in Ousby  for normal 9.30 departure. Let me know if you need details of how to find us.

3 Bike Ride Wednesday 8th May

Update:
Bill has put his back out and is staying off the bike for a few days and has asked me (Geoff) to lead the ride. I will be at Melmerby at 0930 but we may well not do the Alston Middleton route due to impending heavy rain. We can discuss possibilities depending on who turns up. It seems drier in the West.... still hope to see some of you out........!!

Come & join me for a ride over the Pennines. Leaving Melmerby at 09:30 we'll ride down to Brough for 11's and then on to Middleton in Teesdale for lunch. Return along the B6277 through the North Pennines ANOB to Garrigil and over Hartside back to Melmerby for a total distance of 70 miles or so. Hope to see some of you out........
