Notice of Change of Date for John R’s Mountain Bike Ride on 28th December

We have had a change of plans for Christmas and will be in Shipley until 30th Dec so I will be pleased to ride from Pooley Bridge over the Fells round Askham on Friday 4th Jan 2019. I will post in the blog to remind folk before the original date of the ride.

Cancelled not concealed

Hmmm not sure what happened to my previous message but obviously I meant the 2bike ride is cancelled. Karen

2 bike ride cancelled

I am following John R's advice and am concealing their the planned 2 bike ride scheduled for tomorrow. I will go to Dalston for 10.00am to advise any non bloggers. Karen

John R’s 3 Bike Ride Weds 28th November

Notice of Cancellation:
Even though the forecast is slightly better for tomorrow 1 raindrop until 1200 hrs then 2 raindrops from 1300hrs the strength of the gusts is actually increasing from 40 to 48 mph during this period. Winds are from SSE to S and we will be potentially affected by cross winds. I am afraid that cycling in these conditions is potentially too risky. I would be prepared to put this ride on in December if there is a space and the weather is kinder.
John Roelich.

PS I will drive to Greystoke in the morning to meet any club members who haven’t read this blog.

2 bike ride Wednesday 28 November

Hi folks, a change to my 2 bike published ride.  We will now cycle around 40 miles and only stop once at Maes Cafe, Uldale at around 11.30 (we are no longer going to Cockermouth). So still meet in Dalston at 10.00am to follow a route via Westward and Ireby and onto Maes.  Returning on the scenic and hilly wee roads behind Caldbeck.  On to Hesket New Market, Sour Nook and back to Dalston well before dark. Hope to see you on this shortish beautiful route.

2 Bike Ride from Dalston, Sunday 25th November

Start at 10.00 am from Dalston and then on to UpFront Galleries at Unthank for coffee. Then a short leg via Lamonby over to the Mill Inn at Mungrisdale (which is open for food again). From there the route back to Dalston could depend on the groups inclination and the amount of daylight left (but bring lights just in case). The route will probably be about 38 miles at a gentle pace.

2 Bike Ride: Wednesday 21st November. 10am Start.

I have had to revise my intended route for this ride because the tearoom at Howtown is closed for the winter.
The ride starts from Frenchfields and meanders around quiet lanes to Great Strickland. From there we cross Lowther Park to Askham and on to Pooley Bridge for coffee.
The route to lunch passes Dalemain and turns into Stainton. Then Newbiggin, Blencow, Unthank and Plumpton.
The total distance is about 35 miles.

3 bike RIDE FROM ABBEY BRIDGE LANERCOST Sunday 18th

JOHN ROELICH’S  Ride
Weather looks to be fine although on the cold side. Please dress accordingly. It is a ONE STOP RIDE to Newcastleton via Hethersghyll, Catlowdy and Kershopfoot for lunch a distance of 24 miles. We will stop at the Olive Tree Cafe. The route home is more undulating going via Kershope Forest, Blackpoolgate, Bewcastle and Askerton.
Please bring lights.
Look forward to seeing you at Abbey Bridge

Tomorrow's 2 bike ride from Appleby

I am a bit of a magpie when it comes to planning routes; this is the anniversary ride route from  October 2016. It's only about 25 miles but includes a bit of climbing (1,614 feet according to my records) travelling clockwise via Crosby Ravensworth to Orton for lunch and back via Great Asby. I intend to park in the central car park in Appleby which I think is reasonably cheap on a Sunday although free parking can be found elsewhere eg on the road. We meet at the Cloisters outside the main church. The pace will be gentle not only because it is a 2-bike ride but also because it is 2 weeks since I sat on a bike! I hope to see some of you there.

2 bike ride Wednesday 14th Nov

The forecast for Wednesday is dire but if anyone relishes wind and rain there is a coffee machine at Watchtree [16 miles] and a woodburning stove at the Highland Laddie [at 26 miles directly or 37 miles for the route via Anthorn] The cook goes off at 2pm so we need to arrive before then.
Return is via Boustead Hill to Dalston for tea. Total about 40miles or 50 for the peninsular route.
Surface water will obscure potholes and hedge trimmings so you may be using your spare inner tubes. You will need lights especially to negotiate the Orton Grange roundabout more safely.
The route could be further shortened if need be.

Bit of help for David Wilson

Anybody have a redundant car battery charger they don't use? Because David doesn't use his car very often it seems to need the occasional charge, but his old Aldi booster pack has thrown in the towel - even I can't fix it! Give him a call on 01768 895709 if you have anything.

David's health issues means he now rarely gets out on his relatively recently acquired electric bike, although Keith Smith does accompany him on the occasional outing.

If anyone that knows  David is passing the Fell Lane area in Penrith, maybe call in for a chat as he rarely gets to see  EV's these days and there are not many folks to chat to when Maria returns home to London.

Thanks

Sunday's 3 Bike Ride from Raughton Head

Sunday's ride is advertised on the Runs List. Leaving Raughton Head at 10am to Caldbeck for 11's (via Cumdivock, Curthwaite & Rosley). Then onto Keswick for lunch, before returning via Mungrisedale & Hesket Newmarket. Total distance about 50 miles. Looking at the weather forecast I would suggest you bring a raincoat!
Raughton Head House (CA5 7DD) is centre of the village about 10m to the left of the phone box through gap in the stone wall (opposite a green salt bunker). Come to house at 9:30 if you’d like a coffee before the ride and there’s tea and cake at end of the ride.
There's parking in front of the house or on the road side beside the village school.
I hope to see you on Sunday.
Bill
