What does local mean...

Some may be interested in this new post on the British Cycling webpages. In the instructions about cycling it says 'stay local' but they have contacted the Minister for Sport to try to find out what was meant by local and as you can see below sensible common sense choice is the key feature.

 What does local mean.......

In his response, the Minister for Sport reiterated the importance of exercise for our physical and mental wellbeing, and stressed that riders should remain as local as possible while exercising and use their common sense to determine what is and is not a reasonable distance - reflecting the fact that each individual will have different personal circumstances.

As a result of this, our recommendation is that you should ride from your front door where possible, ride within your ability and ensure that you are self-sufficient. If you do need to travel for exercise, you should do this as close to home as possible. We all have our part to play in reducing the spread of the virus, and by riding responsibly and taking extra precautions (such as avoiding crowded areas) we’ll be helping to keep ourselves and our communities safe.

We shall see whether there are further changes in the pipeline on Monday!!

Thighs of Steel

I refer to my blog about the Cycle Touring Festival.   I have watched several talks during the festival and have been impressed by their quality.   Some of the talks have been inspirational and thought-provokingo.   Most of the talks are recorded and are viewable on facebook on the Cycle Touring Festival pages

One talk I did not view was one entitled 'Thighs of Steel' but I have just watched the recording.   Particularly for our female members the recording is worth watching.

Dick Phillips Legacy

I don't normally buy the Cumberland News, but I did this week and came across the following article about Dick Phillip's legacy to the Alston Moor Community which I know will interest some of you.

Takeaway coffee stops...

The snow and ice has kept me off the road except once since the New Year (but we have been paddling - that's been cold, too!) For those venturing out, I thought you might like to know that Melmerby Village Bakery is doing takeaway from today, opening Saturdays 9.30 to 1.30 and Wednesdays 10 - 1.30. I believe the Morland cafe is also open for takeaways though I think it's shut Mondays and Tuesdays. Might help to have a target to get me out on the bike again...
