Club Ride Wednesday 29 April - Possible Change of Route

As things stand, the weather forecast for Wednesday is pretty grim. Having cycled over Wrynose on Friday in very poor conditions, I am reluctant to risk the safety of the group.  I will therefore review and if necessary revise the route depending on the weather. Hopefully the conditions on the day will be much better than the current forecast (as they often are) and the ride can proceed as planned, as the ride from the top of Wrynose to Duddon Bridge is an absolute joy. If the weather is against us we will still have a good ride but on less severe and exposed terrain.

We will start from the quarry car park in Grasmere at 0930 as on the Runs List.

Another holiday?

Fresh from the success of our cycling holiday in Scotland, a group of the girls (Rachel, Shauna, Jen, Dallas, Pam and me - no age-ist comments please!) have booked a lodge at Tarbert West Loch Fyne for a week commencing Saturday 20th June.
Tarbert Loch Fyne is at the waisted bit of land at the head of the Mull of Kintyre. It is close to ferries to Portavadie (Cowal Peninsula), Arran (Lochranza), Gigha, Jura and Islay.
If anyone is interested in joining us that week, you can visit the website westlochshores or contact Malcolm on 01880 820873 to book your own lodge.
Happy holidays!

Cycle Maintenance

Received from Cycle Carlisle:
The attached publicises a Cycle Maintenance double event in Brampton (nr Carlisle) in May
This might interest some, but don't forget your lbs (if you have one). Perhaps worth an enquiry for further information.

Cycling Music Lap2 or Bicycling Bard is Bach

As many of you will have seen in the recent 'cycle clips' email, virtuoso guitarist - and CTC member - Richard Durrant is following up last year's successful 1,500 mile tour with another trip this summer.
Richard will perform ‘Cycling Music Lap 2’ throughout the country from Friday 1 May to Saturday 3 July. The concerts will feature Bach’s Chaconne, as well as Richard’s own ‘Cycling Music’, which was inspired by the noises made by bicycles. He will also play his latest single ‘Subbuteo Table Cycling’. Richard is kindly donating a portion of the ticket sales to CTC charity Cyclists’ Defence Fund.
He is due to be performing at  UpFront on Saturday 6 June. So put the date in your diary.

Ride Sunday 26th April

Taking into account the possible wet weather the ride will be quite flexible and I have decided to move the lunch stop to Appleby where there is more choice. Coffee stop remains Victoria Institute Culgaith at the Art show. GR611298
Good circuit in any weather!

Bike Boxes

Cathy and I have just bought 2 bike boxes which came in very substantial cardboard cases that would be most capable of carrying bikes themselves.
If anyone is interested in having them, please let me know or else I will take them for recycling.

Wanted - Tow Bar Mounted Bike Rack

Before I shell out, does anyone know of a second hand towbar mounted 2 bike rack, eg Halfords or Thule type? Need one that clamps to the tow ball and supports bike wheels on channels, not the simpler hanging type.

Wednesday 8 April ride to Caldbeck

I've organized good weather for us all though it may be a cool and misty start.  Depart Langwathby Village Hall at 9.30 am prompt, then via Salkeld Dykes and Plumpton at 10 - 10.10 am; to Mungrisedale Mill Inn for 11s at 18 miles (I sampled their carrot cake on Sunday!).  On to Caldbeck for cafe, pub or BYO lunch at about 35 miles then back via Plumpton (tea if anyone wants) to Langwathby.  Moderate pace as I'm not up to speed yet!  Peter Koch-Osborne.

Easter Sunday ride 5th April

Looks like we will have cloudy but dry weather tomorrow so hope to see folk outside the cafe in Longtown at 9.30. Parking anywhere along the street. Hilly ride but steady pace. 11's in Langholm, lunch Newcastleton - there are cafes, but please bring your own food supplies too just in case.
Easter bonnets not obligatory!

PS By the way - just checked the distance on Bike Hike and the distance looks more like 60 than 56 miles........just so you know.

Lift required for return journey from Girvan Saturday18th

We have had a change in our arrangements so would be grateful for a lift back for myself and bike.  This can be to somewhere in the Carlisle or Penrith area.  Sue can collect me from there or en-route by bike to Cockermouth after dropping Rosie at Carlisle railway station and then the bikes at home. (We can't carry three bikes in the car.)

Have looked at trains but there is no cross country route from Stranraer or Girvan towards Carlisle.
Also cycling all the way is not an option.
