After lunch we will head west via Nateby and out towards Pilling before heading for home via Condor Green, Lancaster and Bolton le Sands.

The total distance will be 59 miles on predominantly flat terrain, and with a good forecast at present, a good day out should be had by all.

Rachel is unable to lead her planned ride since she has to attend a funeral service with a friend.

Ride 20th Jan

I've discovered this fantastic route where the roads are clear and the weather is fine 20°C and there's not a breath of a wind. Unfortunately it's somewhere in New Zealand so we'll have to make do with Culgaith.
Not surprisingly I have had to modify the original ride, but I've had a good look at the lanes today and around here they are mostly clear. It looks to be a beautiful day but may be a bit brisk! The revised route willl go up to Shap and down to Bampton (roads all clear) then across to Pooley (no)Bridge for lunch at GrannyD's which is open according to their website so it would be good to support them!(40km)  Then we go through or round Penrith to get out to Greystoke Blencow Plumpton and back to Culgaith via one of several possible routes depending on how things go. (total 50 to 65mi - no rush) Refuelling at Station House on return for those that don't go home early!
Hope to see you either on the way or at the start(10.00) - parking in the yard for those that arrive early otherwise lay-by over the brow or in the village.

Dalston ride on 17 January

Hi Folks, as in Cathy's email I am sorry but I am also cancelling the ride scheduled to leave from Dalston at 10.00am tomorrow.  Its pretty snowy here and the wee roads this pm were building up over the already established ice, (luckily I had my front studded winter tyre on but would not have been happy without it).  Anyway hope to see you all in April when I return to Cumbria for longer periods than at present.

Happy Cycling

Karen

Ride Sunday 17th

Given that our forecast is for some heavy snowfall this afternoon and sub zero temperatures tomorrow morning I think it is sensible to cancel the ride for tomorrow in the hope that it will give you the opportunity to see if you can find an ice free corner of the county in which to do some pedalling and to use the blog to offer it to others if you want to.
We are hoping to find some ice free pedalling from Morecambe, probably from the car park next to the golf club, near Happy Mount Park at the north end of the front, probably not starting the ride until 11 am.  We will have Ernest as a guide who knows the area well.  If you're thinking of joining us for an exploratory ride, please give us a call, you'd be most welcome.

Trivets meeting

The organising committee for  the Trivets 2016 had their first meeting this Tuesday and things will soon be mapped out (!) prior to the event being published in Cycle magazine. The event which is planned for 15th June is intended for both visitors (there were 21 last year) and our own members and the main challenge is a ride of 100mi in several differently paced groups led by those who have volunteered. Put the date in your diary and look out for further details.
Thanks again for those who have already volunteered as ride leaders/marshals we will be in touch nearer the time.

Total distance will be around 47 miles.

Saturday 9 January 2016

On behalf of Pam
Thought some of you may be interested in this??

All monies raised will be donated to the Cumbria Flood Appeal to help those people affected by the floods. Please come and support this and tell everyone you know not to miss out seeing this interesting piece of history.

Main Ride Wed 6 th Jan

As published the ride will start at 10:00 at Dalston Car Park for lastish (hopefully not too late) 11's at Caldbeck. Since Jane has relocated to Penrith and the Coral Room Cafe at Plumpton is now closed, it is proposed that the Pot Place shall be used for the Lunch venue.

Although published as 45 ish miles the planned route is light by a few miles, with a short stage from Dalston to Caldeck followed by the longest stage on to Plumpton and a slightly shorter third stage to Dalston.

The route could be modified subject to weather conditions.

Happy New Year

As it seems to have been raining non-stop since November, we will all be hoping for an improvement in the weather soon - some with more reason than others. Thank you to Lance for kick-starting the year with an impromptu lunch on New Year's Day which resulted in over £200, including Gift Aid, being sent to the flood appeal.
Les led in the New Year with Sunday's undulating ride to Talkin Tarn while 'the alternatives' searched for an open coffee shop - Brougham Hall and Thiefside were closed - eventually ending up at the Pot Place in the company of several Border City Wheelers. My bike decided to go on strike so my first outing was in the car - no points for me! But I plan to be riding - moderately - on Wednesday.
Given the time of year, the seasonal hours of cafes and the risk of road closures, please check the blog, if you can, before you travel in case there are any unavoidable changes.
Whatever your objective for 2016, whether it be to ride an audax or sportive, to reach X,000 miles, to go cycle-touring or join a CTC holiday or simply to get out more often, we look forward to seeing you.
Best wishes to all - Alison

Trivets 2016 volunteer reminder

Very many thanks to all who have volunteered already for the various jobs both on the day and on the committee. If you haven't and would like to help then please let us know by either phoning or filling in the form HERE
There will be a short meeting on the 12th of January to organise a committee and to fix date(s) for further meetings. Details to follow to those who have said that they would be prepared to help.

Thank you again to all the volunteers - we cannot run the event without you!

Geoff

Saturday 2 January 2016

Sunday Cafe Stop

Alison, Pam and Dallas are meeting at 11o'clock at Thiefside. If it is closed we will continue to the Pot Place. All welcome!

ALT Ride Sunday 3 rd Jan - Brougham Hall not open

Betty Anne's Tea Room at Brougham Hall will not be open until Mon 4 th Jan.

Other options would be :-

Abbott Lodge
Granny Dowbekins at Pooley Bridge - They would probably welcome some business
The Lofthouse at Stainton
Mrs Millar's at Culgaith
Mill Retaurant at Morland.

With the bridge near Brougham Castle closed, the only way to cross the River Eamont from Penrith at present is the metal footbridge at Eamont Bridge OR risking a short section of the A66 near the Karma Llama Kafe to get to Brougham Castle.

New Years day 'Loop and Soup' at Cliburn Village Hall

A big thank you to the 22 generous folk who turned up for the impromptu  'Loop and Soup' event today donating a total of £160 to the Cumbria Flood Appeal.  The cash has been donated through my Just Giving account thus adding £40 from HM treasury so Cumbria Community Foundation will actually receive £200 (details below)

Also many thanks to Geoff for leading the morning and afternoon rides.

And to Keeley for the idea to call it a 'Loop and Soup' or 'Soup and Loop' :)
