Rides this wednesday 31st March

Hello all. Both rides start from Beacon Edge cemetery lay-by, Penrith at 10am.

Rosie will lead a 2 bike ride down the Lyvennet valley to Crosby Ravensworth for a BYO lunch at about 12 noon. Return through Morland perhaps stopping at the cafe for a takeaway coffee. If there are more than 6 Mike has offered to lead a second group following the same route.

Phil will lead a 3 bike ride to Orton via Shap. Possible  coffee/roll at the Orton village shop. Probably best to take something incase. We will then ride back to Penrith via Sunbiggin Tarn.

Hope to see lots of you out for our first chance of a group ride in a long time.

Resumption of Club Rides

The government's roadmap out of lockdown allows for groups of up to 6 people to meet outside again which means that we can resume group rides - yippee! Also organised sports can restart, which will not be subjected to the rule of six gathering limit. Cycling UK's advice to clubs is to restrict group rides to a maximum of 15 people, however they are advising that this should be an absolute maximum and it is not a target figure. The size of the group will be decided in advance by the Ride Leader. We would suggest that people who want to go on group rides should contact the Ride Leader before hand to make sure there is space on the ride. It may be necessary to split up into 2 groups.

The other issue with the resumption of group rides is cafe stops. Generally speaking the cafes that are currently open are only open for take away and it will stay like this until 16th April. So for the time being it is not practical (or realistic) for a large group to turn up at a cafe and meet up with others who are already there. If you want to meet up with other members for coffee then I would suggest that you use/join the WhatsApp group referred to in Mike's blog on 15th March.

The rolling Runs List is up & running again and currently has a choice rides up until 22nd April. I would urge our Ride Leaders to have a look and see what they can offer to keep our club running. The Rolling Runs List is of course on our website.

Looking forward to some social cycling again.

Cheers,

Bill

Cafes

We are hoping to share ideas about potential cafe meets on Wednesdays and Sundays. We recognise that we need to be flexible as the situation changes but feel that our coffee meets are really important in getting things going again. I have set up a WhatsApp group so that we can share our knowledge and then hopefully by April we can start to blog cafe meets. Eventually, of course, we hope to publish the full quarterly Runs List with a cafe rota. But the present situation requires a more ad hoc solution.

If you have ideas and information about cafes and would like to be included in this WhatsApp group please let me know. It's open to all members.

Runs list.....things looking up.....so have a look

We are promoting a "rolling runs list" as the Covid situation continues to improve. You will see that many of our excellent leaders have already put on a number of rides from the very end of March (29th March is when the government "Stay at home rule" ends).

This list will hopefully continue to develop so please keep your eye out and refer to the list on our web site

Remember to check this blog too a day or so before the ride.

If you would like to add a ride please let me know if you are not sure how to go about it. Our registered ride leaders have a link to enable them to add rides.

Notice of 2021 Zoom AGM to all EV Cycling UK Members Saturday 10th April 1400hrs

Within the next 3 weeks I will be emailing all EV Cycling UK members with the Agenda of the Zoom meeting, with a Logon code and Password. As I am sure we are all aware Cycling UK has changed its annual year end from September to April. At the Extraordinary Meeting of 23rd October 2020 it was agreed to extend the tenure of the existing Committee until the new end of year in March 2021.

The Zoom AGM will consider the following;

  • Items on the agenda for the 2021 AGM. This is a call to all EV members for agenda items. Such Items must be submitted to the Secretary preferably by email before 27th March 2021. My email can be found on the EV website which is password protected for this information

  • Approving our new Constitution. We discovered that we could not find our original Constitution when planning for the Extraordinary General meeting and the Committee undertook to download a Cycling UK model constitution and adapt it to suit our needs. The Committee has done this and have sent a copy to Cycling UK for comment. In the light of comments received from Cycling UK we have amended our first draft. The Committee is asking EV members to read the draft constitution which is posted on our website and send comments to the secretary before the AGM on 10th April 2021. Members attending the Zoom AGM will be asked to discuss comments sent to the Secretary and vote to approve the new constitution.

  • Those attending the Zoom AGM will be asked to approve the Minutes of the 2019 AGM and the 2020 Extraordinary General meeting and as these minutes are posted on our website already I will not be sending these minutes with my email.

  • Officers reports for the 2021 AGM will be updated officers reports that we received for the Zoom EGM. They will not be read out at the Zoom AGM and people logging on to the Zoom AGM will be asked to read them beforehand and approve them at the Zoom AGM

  • Election of Officers for 2021-2; When I email EV members I will indicate which members of the Committee who are prepared to stand for Posts for the next year.

John Roelich (Secretary EV Cycling UK)
