Club Ride Sunday 2 November

The ride will officially start from Burneside Church at 0930 and pass through Bowston to collect those who park at our house. The first 10 miles will be quite hilly as we head for Kirkby Lonsdale for 11s. Lunch will be in Carnforth (via Burton in Kendal and Over Kellet) at the Brief Encounter cafĂ© which was the location for the film.
After lunch we will take the coastal road around Silverdale and Arnside before heading for home. Total distance will be 55 miles.
Tea will be available in Bowston after the ride and the forecast is looking good - what could be better!
Hope to see you on Sunday

The Coveted CNC Award

Yeah verily a week past, did I throw down the gauntlet to that knave CJ, offering a prize if he would accept my terms of battle. These were that this wastrel would forsooth on my cycle ride one week hence (wot was today in gorgeous sunshine), refrain from uttering any verbal outpourings concerning the route with words akin to 'unnecessary hill', 'oh b----y hell, why are we going that way', 'I wouldn't go this sodding way',  'the pace is too fast', etc. etc. After suitable contemplation of his veritable two-tums for an eyeblink, my terms were agreed. The rascal of course invoked dastardly cheating by riding directly to 11's and departing 20 miles before the end, thus avoiding irritation of my lugholes for half of the chosen route. However, terms were fulfilled in that nary once did he utter (at least in my earshot - but if anyone knows differently, please comment) anything derogatory about my chosen (albeit occasionally mislaid) route. I doth however wish I had included omission of the words bovine, ovine and woo-woo as part of the terms....

.... and however indeed, his prize is to be mentioned in despatches to the hallowed echelons of EV, and to be here anointed with the covetous CNC award or to be rendered its full title, the Chris No Complaint award.

Ride Wed Oct 29th

Don't forget 11's at Renwick means 10.30 latest, as the ladies close up the church hall by 11 o'clock.

Wednesday forecast suggests cold but relatively dry, so hopefully better weather and photos than Janet's drowned rat mob at Silloth yesterday.

See some of you Wednesday either at the start chez moi for a prompt 9.30 getaway, or more likely riding directly to Renwick.

Sun 26 th Oct - Seven riders enjoying A Bracing day at Silloth by The Sea on the Sunny Solway Riviera in the Rain

The gap is reserved for the seventh rider ( leader and photographer ) Janet who would have to stood to catch the spray from the waves.

It was a grand day out thanks to Janet for leading such a challenging ride.

Morning coffee at Wheyrigg Hotel and lunch at Mawbray Garden Centre. Please don't forget to bring lights just in case - as we put the clocks back tonight :(

Impromtu ride prior to AGM on Saturday 25 th October

Dear All,

Subject to weather conditions I intend to ride from Langwathby village hall to the Coral Room Cafe at Plumpton for 11's prior to having lunch back at the the village hall at 12:30 followed by the AGM at 14:00.

I will arrive at Langwathby before 09:30 for prompt as possible departure at 09:30 to ensure sufficient time to arrive back at Langwathby before lunch.

Having visited the Coral Room to day on the ALT ride I warned Jane the proprietor that a small group of us would like to have 11's on Sat at the premises.

2014 Christmas Lunch - Book Now or at the AGM

It's not even November but if you want to secure your place at the Christmas Lunch - BOOK NOW

This is usually a very pleasant not to say festive occasion and again this year it is being held at Mrs Millers - about 100m from our house so guess who's organizing it!
12.30pm - 13th December
You will be able to hand in your requests at the AGM or alternatively use the form and the menu which you can down load by clicking on the links.

Thanks for getting on with it promptly!
I'll be reminding us regularly from time to time!

Club Ride Wednesday 15 October

The ride will start from the Village Hall in Burton in Kendal at 0930. As you may know, we have an arrangement with their Treasurer that we can use the car park at a cost of £1 per vehicle for the day. Cathy and I will collect the money and forward it accordingly.
The ride will be 63 miles and will head to Wray for 11s via Capernwray, Gressingham and Wennington. From there we will head out to Keasden Crossroads and head for Slaidburn for lunch via Bowland Knotts.
After lunch we will return via the Trough of Bowland. Jubilee Tower, Quernmore, Caton and Over Kellet.
The ride will be scenic and hilly, but there will be no brutal climbs. Currently the forecast is looking good, but if things change there will be options to modify the route.
Hope to see you on Wednesday,
Keith G.

Friday, 10 October 2014

Both the moderate and main runs, starting at Dalston, will reach the Mill Inn at Mungrisdale later than 11.00am. If you are thinking of joining us there it will be more like 11.20 - 11.30. The main ride's lunch stop at Upfront will also therefore be late, say about 2.00pm. However, it will be a relatively short ride back to Dalston - for some tea if you wish!

Saturday, 4 October 2014

Ernest has kindly stepped in and will be leading the Club ride.
Meeting 9.30 Kirby Stephen, Cloisters (as the runs list),  11's at Hardraw Cafe, lunch at Far Mill, Sedbergh.
The route is out via Mallerstang to Hawes. Then up Widdale and down to Dent and Sedbergh.
A hilly route.
Thanks Ernest for stepping in,  David

ALT Club Run 1 st October - Attendance

Would anyone who went to the Coral Room Cafe for 11's yesterday please let me know so I can credit riders with attendance points

I have damaged my knee and cannot cycle
Please contact me if you can take my place as leader
I have a planned route & cafe stops but I guess that you could amend this to suit as long as it starts at Kirby Stephen.

Thanks David Harrison
