Photos from the TriVets 2022

Those of you who have delved into the further reaches of our website will see that there are pictures of previous TriVets events. It would be nice to do something similar for this year so if you have some pics of cyclists riding, eating or resting during the TriVets please pass them on. Ideally jpegs of about 1Mb but don't worry about details.

If you click this link you should be able to drop files into the folder. Add title, owner and detail if you can.

Many thanks

Geoff

Your input is needed!

Dear Fellow Cyclists,
I am part of a campaign group called  SITU (Sustainable and Integrated Transport for Ullswater).

The group has been working on a questionnaire about safe cycling routes and crossings along the A66 west of Stainton.
The short questionnaire is now ready and available through the SITU website on the link below. Could I ask you please to complete the survey and also to send it on to keen and reluctant cyclists of your acquaintance, friends and family, or anyone else who you think might be interested. It is particularly relevant to local people but the thoughts of holiday makers here would be appreciated too.

The last question is the crucial one and may appear a little ambiguous (I didn’t design it!) but the critical input you guys could put it in,  is which of  the A66 crossings between Penrith and Troutbeck you think would most benefit from cyclist improvements.

Many  thanks for your help.

Cecilia

Sunday 24th July Cafe meet at Brougham Hall - Kendal Calling is progress nearby

The Kendal Calling Music Mestival is on this weekend at Lowther Castle so road traffic close to Lowther can be bad.

Although we generally use lanes wherever possible to attend our meets riders should take care and be aware of increased traffic in the area.

Sunday 24 th July 2022 Grade 2 ride

The ride as published will be : -

Start - 09:30 at Dalston car park

Outward journey - Rosley, Wigton, Waverton, to the Wheyrigg Hall Hotel ( on the B5302 between Waverbridge and Abbeytown)

11's  - at the Wheyrigg Hall Hotel - who have been advised to expect our group. They can provide bacon / sausage baps or sandwiches , Tea and coffee ( previously toast & jam or marmite has been available ) but they don't have cakes or teacakes

Continueing -  on via Adolth, and Tarns to Beckfoot Bank Mill Nursereies

Lunch - At the Dunes Coffee Shop - who can provide light bites, Sandwiches and all day breakfasts - I have confirmed that they will be open ( alternatively BYO and sit in the sand dunes overlooking the sea and bring your buckets & spades )

Return journey Silloth, Skinburness, Calvo, Seaville, Abbeytown, Lessonhall, Moorhouse, Thornby, Woodhouses, Orton rigg and Orton Grange

The overall distance about 50 miles.

On Sundays, there can be significant road traffic on the B5302 between Waverbridge and Abbeytown, and especially on the B5300 coast road between Beckfoot and Silloth plus some traffic on the B5302 between Calvo & Abbeytown so care is needed splitting into groups of 4 or 5 were necessary to allow traffic to pass safely.

Let's hope the weather is good and not as hot as it's been recently.

Wednesday 20th July Ride from Brough

The ride round Tan Hill and the Stang is quite hilly so I have decided to start in Brough (Near the clock T junction) GR NY 794 146 this makes the ride about 50mi(80km)and 4000ft (1250m) We will start as usual at 0930 and head up towards Middleton in Teesdale cutting across the reservoirs to the Barnard Castle road at Cotherstone then from BC up the Stang over to the Reeth Tan Hill road and back to Brough.

It is due to be a lot less hot and indeed there may be some rain but anyway we'll take it steady. Possible stops on the way but Byo so we can take advantage of good picnic sites!

Please message if you are coming so we don't leave without you and I can provide transport from Culgaith area for up to 2 others.

Rachel's rides...

On Wednesday 13 July Rachel is offering a ride from the 11s stop at Lowther castle to Shap Abbey. Distance about 20 miles and BYO picnic

And on Sunday 17 July Rachel will be leaving Alston Railway Station at 10 following the South Tyneside Railway to Lambley Viaduct. It's an off road ride on gravel track suitable for all bikes. BYO advised.

A sign has been seen suggesting that on Sunday 17 July there will be a fund-raising breakfast at Great Strickland. No further details are available at present and the coffee stop remains at Melmerby as things stand, for those not joining Rachel's ride from Alston.

3 Bike Ride (with a 2 bike option) Wednesday 6th July

Newcastleton & Kielder Lakeside Way Trail **There are a couple of diversions in force on the trail, due to storm damage earlier in the year, but it is open**

09:30 from Newcastleton, Scottish Borders, to Kielder Castle (15 miles) & then around Kielder on the Lakeside Way trail (26 miles) returning to Newcastleton by same route. 56 miles total. Free parking at Douglas Square, Newcastleton.

OR meet 11.00 hours (approx) at Kielder Castle for coffee & just do the Lakeside Way trail (26 miles). There are options to trim a few miles off the trail if required.

The Lakeside Way follows the 26 mile Kielder Water shoreline. A unique, beautiful cycling experience accessing the most scenic parts of the lake shore on a multi-user, traffic free, trail for walkers, cyclists, horse riders & wheelchair users & clearly signposted all the way. The surface is finely crushed, heavily compacted, well drained gravel & is rideable on any type of bike though, in my opinion, sturdy tyres of 28c & above with some tread is best. The trail is NOT FLAT with a couple of short sharp inclines on the north side but nothing serious. Caution required in places. 3 to 3½ hours round (approx) including photo stops & refreshments.

There are cafes/restaurants/bars & toilets at Kielder Castle, Tower Knowe (13 mile) & Leaplish Waterside Park (20 mile). Or BYO for a picnic on the shore. Parking is PAY & DISPLAY at Kielder Castle. There are public toilets, bike hire/shop & though the cafe is closed there is an 'outside' catering unit.

If you fancy joining me text or WhatsApp 07855534727.

Cheers, John H

Sunday 10th July 'almost a 3' ride from Frenchfield, 9.30am

A slightly shortened version of a previous ride taken from the list on our website.... from Frenchfield to Lowther, Orton (coffee - early lunch?), Newbiggin on Lune and back - 48 miles, approx 1000 metres of ascent.

My thanks to the original leader...

Further opportunity for a cake or more at Millyard, Morland (close at 4 - no food after 3)....however, BYO might be a good plan if Orton too soon to indulge sufficiently.

Route here

Hope to see a goodly few of you 😀
