New Cycle Cafe for Weekend rides?

Hi Geoff
We just wanted to email you let you know about our new cycle cafe that we opened today. We are called Woodside Welcome Cycle Cafe. At the moment we are only open Saturdays and Sundays and bank holidays but with support we could open more frequently. We have a Facebook page for you to look at and are working on a website. Would it be possible to let your members know about us? We are at Dalston on the road that leads to Rose Castle, just before you reach Lime House School. Its on cycle route 7. The Facebook page shows the wrong map despite me emailing them twice!!
Anyway, we would welcome any of your members.
Kind regards
Mike and Debs

Club Ride Sunday 28th August

As per runs list and we will decide on the day whether to split into two groups. For instance, if there are some who would like another hill or two, that could be arranged. But still a moderate ride. The basic ride is just under 40 miles. Coffee at Lowther Castle and lunch at the Station Cafe in Langwathby.

Thanks - Allison's Ride - Wed 24th Aug

Many thanks to all of you for your patience and support while we sorted out the snapped chain on my bike. Special thanks go to Mike (the missing link) Baron without whose intervention it could  have been even more challenging. Trust it didn't mar your enjoyment of  a lovely ride and day out. We got back safely accompanied by Peter.

Chris

I visited Chris R in Carlisle hospital and am very pleased to report that he was looking very well. Visiting times on Willow C are 3 - 4.30 and 6.30 to 8 but if you are thinking of dropping in you may wish to let Claire know - we don't want to be like buses and all arrive at once!

Wednesday ride from Keswick

Peter C. has asked me to lead the ride as he is unable to do so.   With Peters agreement I have amended the route.

The revised route will be Keswick to Grasmere for 11's.   Then Red bank, Skelwith Bridge, Ambleside, Kirkstone via 'The struggle' and lunch in Glenridding.    After lunch ride along the side of Ullswater and turn off at Gowbarrow followed by Ulcat Row, Matterdale and eventually to Keswick via Castlerigg Stone Circle.    The distance in total will be about 55 miles.

Hope to see some of you at the start at 9.30am behind Keswick baths.

Wednesday's # ride from Thiefside at 10.30

As Karen can't now lead the ride on Wednesday (24 August) I have stepped in (with a bit of help from my friends) - as many of our Dalston friends regularly cycle south to meet the rest of us, my plan is to cycle north to Dalston for a change (via Hesket Newmarket and Caldbeck). There are a few places for lunch in Dalston - may be a bit weather dependant - I am thinking about the Country Kitchen. I am aiming for about 40 miles - could be shorter if wet - and there may be an option of two paces if the group is large. You can extend the ride by riding a direct or circuitous route (to suit yourself) to meet me at Thiefside. I will be there at 10 to have coffee before leaving at 10.30. Look forward to seeing you.

Coffee stop ride

Elevenses tomorrow is at Abbot Lodge - they don't open until 11. I am planning to leave Melmerby at 9.30, follow the fellside route to meet the Langwathby contingent at the Culgaith junction at about 9.50, then on to Temple Sowerby, Morland and Strickland, which should see us at Abbot Lodge for 11. I will probably come home via Eamont Bridge, Strawberry Bank and Langwathby. It would  be good to see anyone who wants to join us! Any queries, please get in touch.

Club Ride Wednesday 17 August

Wednesday's ride will start from Morrison's car park, Kendal at 0930. There is no problem with parking, but I suggest we park around the rear near Halfords.
The route will take us through Staveley and Troutbeck before we climb Kirkstone and descend The Struggle into Ambleside, where we will have 11's.
From here we will head for Hawkshead for lunch via Grasmere, Red Bank, Blea Tarn, Coniston and Hawkshead Hill. The return leg will take us through Ambleside again, Holbeck Lane and Burneside..
The total distance will be approximately 65 miles. This is a hilly ride with steep climbs and descents with some sections having gradients of 25%.
The forecast is great and the scenery stunning, so I hope to see some of you on Wednesday.

Sunday ride August 14th

Our annual trip to Thornhill - beautiful, wild country, great views, very quiet roads, 11's Lockerbie, lunch Thornhill (cafe or BYO). Some climbing involved, particularly before lunch after Ae. Distance - approx 75 miles. Bring supplies as no cafes in the afternoon. Weather: seems like it's going to be dry but I'll be taking my waterproofs just in case.
Hope you can join us.

Wed 10th August - club run

The latest forecast for tomorrow suggests rain showers from about 3pm onwards.   Winds throughout the day will be light west-south westerlies.    I'm a bit undecided whether to stick with the planned route or amend it.   My experience of 'light showers' in this part of the country is they are often torrential.

Whatever we decide, the ride will start at 9am from Langholm car park and we will stop for lunch approx 30 miles later in Moffat.   There will be no 11's stop unless you bring your own.   If we do the ride as planned, the route will go over 'The Devils Beef Tub' as far as Tweedsmuir, then Talla Water and drop down to St Mary's Loch.     Eventually Tushielaw and down the Ettrick Valley to Langholm.  There will be a couple of options for afternoon tea in the area of St Mary's Loch.

An alternative route if we wish from Moffat, is up the A708 direct to St Mary's Loch missing out Tweedsmuir and Talla Water.   That will reduce the overall distance to about 90 miles.    We can leave a decision about the route until we get to Moffat

Hope to see you at the start.
