AGM - Saturday 9th April

First a reminder of the Bring and Share Lunch at 12.30 which is always a good get together. If you cannot bring food, I am sure there will be plenty, but we ask that you pay £5. In either case sign up on the list by filling in the form (link). It would be useful for catering/numbers if you could indicate on the link above if you aim to attend the lunch before Thursday 7th April.

There may be a short ride in the morning - see the Blog
I will open the Hall from about 12:00 so if we could have a few helpers to lay out the tables and if food needs heating, then please ensure you are there early.

The AGM kicks off at 2.00pm and I have no special items apart from what is mentioned in the
AGENDA (link) and last year’s AGM Minutes here

Please could all our EV members especially those of you who have joined us since the lockdown make a special effort to come to the AGM.

It is significant that both Chair (self) and Secretary (John R) are stepping down this year and so far we have no replacements! Our group needs to have a full and functioning Committee for us all to continue to enjoy the activities and events that we have all benefitted from. Please let either John or me know if you are prepared to join the Committee, you would be most welcome! The club is after all run for the members and needs willing volunteers to function. We are grateful to all volunteers who give their time to run all aspects of the club from leading rides through organising events and weeks away and to all the members of the committee.

Ride from Dalston @ 09:30, Wednesday 30th March

A 50 mile ride with only 1000 feet (approx) climbing. Starting at 09:30 hours from the car park at Dalston then onto Silloth via Aikton, Abbeytown & Skinburness. Just the one stop at Silloth for lunch (26 mile). Returning to Dalston via Abbeytown, Lessonhall, Wigton & Cumdivock.

Summer is over & it is forecast to be cold with a possibility of showers so, if you intend joining me, you will need your winter woollies. We can shorten the ride if the weather is 'miserable'.

Sunday 20 March - a short 2-bike ride to Langwathby Big Breakfast

I am leaving Melmerby at 9.30 and travelling via Ousby, Skirwith, Culgaith (eta at Culgaith not before 10)  then into Langwathby, expecting to arrive around 10.30 in the hope of avoiding the busiest time. From Langwathby we will cross the river and travel north to Lazonby - anyone wishing to join us from Penrith is very welcome - then back across the river for the Glassonby loop back home. Total only around 21 miles and home in time for lunch (if you aren't too full of  breakfast!)

I look forward to seeing people either on the ride or supporting the big breakfast.

Gravel Ride - Friday 18th March

I have added this to the calendar of rides - looking at the weather it should be one of the first decent days for a while so I am going to put on the gravel tyres and go for a relatively easy mixed route - anyone is welcome to join me - meet at the bridge layby or come to Station House. The route is basically Culgaith down to Orton and back with off road bits. Many variations possible but here is one version I did in January GPX file here  Stop in Orton and/or bring your own supplies.

Any bike with biggish tyres (35mm) though Gravel perfect . MTB may be heavy on the tarmac sections but perfectly ok we can modify the route accordingly.

Please text me on 07711842885 if you intend coming

WEDNESDAY 16 MARCH 3 Bike Ride

Wed 16 Mar 9.30am at Shap car park

Mallerstang (roadside BYO, unless Norman's cafe is open), Sedbergh (late lunch), back along Long Mile to Shap.

Good clear roads (I hope), a long climb up Matterstang, a gorgeous down hill-ish to Sedbergh then a slog back. It really is a nice day out and one of my favourite rides

Sunday 13th March 3 bike ride

Sundays weather looks a moderate southerly breeze, so I am going to revert to the original plan of doing the north pennine loop anticlockwise. Starting at Lazonby bridge at 9.30, the first stop will be in Alston and then the second near Brampton. Hope that you can join Rosie and myself.

A few riders at Cafe Velo, Temple Sowerby

Good to get out yesterday on a glorious day and meet with friends old and new. Hope to meet out with more and more of our members as spring approaches. This was Alison's ride on Sunday but looks like another good ride available on Wednesday - see Geoff's blog below.

Ride Wednesday 9th from Langwathby

Starting in Langwathby (green) at 0930 going on a detour along the fellside then to Lowther for coffee (30km so should be there 11.00ish) next up the Lowther valley for some not so often cycled roads and to Pooley Bridge for lunch. Then down the side of Ullswater to Wreay N to Greystoke Catterlen and back to Langwathby. 87km and 900m of ascent. Hope to to see some out for some or all of the route. The weather is due to be dry and mild if a little less 'blue sky' then today.

Very slow 2 bike ride on Sunday 6 March

My plan is to set off from Beacon Edge at 10 am to arrive at Larch Cottage for coffee at 11. The route will be via Lowther. From there we cycle via Great Strickland to Temple Sowerby velo cafe (lunch) then back via Langwathby and Strawberry Bank to the start.

There are 3 reasons it will be slow; I am out of practice, I don't have e-assistance and it's a hilly route - each leg about 9 miles, finishing off with Strawberry Bank. If you plan to come please make sure you wear extra layers as you can't rely on exercise at my pace to keep you warm.
