Ride on Wednesday 28th October 9:30am

Starting in Hesket Newmarket at 09:30, I'm hoping to ride over Caldbeck Commons and on to Cockermouth via the Binsey road. Return by Whinlatter and a loop around the back of Derwent Water. Total distance about 53 miles. The weather forecast isn't very good at the moment so the route can be shortened if need be. If you'd like a longer ride then I will be cycling to start of ride leaving Raughton Head at 08:50 which will add 6 miles to start (and another 6 to end of ride) if you care to join me.

Bring your own refreshments although there is possibility of a coffee in Cockermouth. Let me know if you want to come along either by replying to this blog or by phone/text.

Cheers,

Bill

Highway Code Consultation / AGM on Saturday

The Government is consulting on proposals for changing the Highway Code particularly in relation to Walkers, Cyclists and Horse riders. There is a government Website which has the questionnaire on it, with the terms proposed to be changed set out above each question. The proposals are very positive for cyclists. I think it is important that as many as possible support them, there may well be resistance from some motorists.
There is one area in which I think the Code if changed as proposed continues to falls short, this is Pedestrians’ Responsibilities: the issue of dog ownership / management in public spaces.
I have made a submission extracts of which appear below:
' .... applaud the general provisions for change.........
... The  reference to dogs in the present Code (56.3) is under the title ‘Other ‘Animals’ which does not draw pedestrians’ attention to their responsibilities.......
.. In the new Pedestrian Rule (H2) there is no direction to dog owners to responsibly control their dogs in shared spaces.......
Long / extendable leads and letting dogs off leads in shared spaces create ..... hazards for others.
Please may mandatory provision be made for pedestrians to keep animals under control and prevent risk to other users of shared spaces (citing rationale) under the Pedestrian Heading.
 '
If anyone would like the full text of my submission I can forward it on request by email, please

 Good morning all,

I refer you to my post below (2nd October) concerning the Extraordinary General Meeting on 24th October. I have just sent out the agenda and log in details for this meeting by email to all those with an email address on our membership list. If you did not receive this email or you know of anyone who would prefer to receive a paper copy then please get in touch (I only got 1 bounce back out of 115 emails!).

I will also post log in credentials for the ZOOM as a link on the blog on morning of the 24th.

Ride On Wednesday 14th October

Starting in Dalston at 9.30. I hope to ride out to Allonby and Mawbray via Sandale (hoping for magnificent views as "sunny intervals and gentle breeze" forecast). BYO supplies although there may be the opportunity for a cafe stop if you wish. 48 miles and 500m of ascent - but the return route is a lot flatter than the morning's ride.

Ride on Sunday 4th October

Come and join me/us for a ride from Langwathby Green 0930 Sunday.

This can be anything from 45- 55 so if the weather is not good we will curtail the route which apart from Orton scar is relatively straightforward. There are lots of possible short cuts! (see route below)

Please bring your own provisions but for those who need there will be possibility to pick up 'stuff' at Appleby and Orton. Of course group size will be limited and the usual sensible distancing will be adopted.

Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting 24th OCTOBER 2020 at 2.00pm

Cycling UK has moved its financial year end to March 31st with the consequence that they now require groups to submit their annual returns and hold AGMs near to this time.

Obviously in the current climate we are unable to hold our planned AGM in Langwathby Village Hall, so it's planned to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting by Zoom in its place on 24th October at 2.00pm.

The main purposes of this meeting are as follows:

1) Give members the opportunity to meet up virtually with people they haven't seen for a while.

2) Provide a forum for members to give their ideas on how to continue through the covid crisis.

3) Give the committee the opportunity to report on what has been happening through the year so far.

4)  Give the current committee the authority to continue until the revised AGM next spring (hopefully then a physical meeting).

It is planned to publish an information package ahead of this meeting along with the agenda. This will be distributed by email to all members along with log in details for the Zoom. Paper copies will be made available on request.

If there is anything you like to discuss then please send your proposal to John Roelich who is putting the agenda together.

If you know anyone in the Club who does not have access to this Blog, please would you tell them what is said here and let us know how they would like to receive documentation / 'paperwork' as we go along' .

Looking forward to seeing you on the 24th.

Bill
