Tour De France Ride Saturday 5 July

We are planning to start from The Cloisters in Kirkby Stephen at 0900 on Saturday to watch the race at the bottom of Buttertubs in Thwaite, where the riders will be swinging sharp right from the descent and head towards Muker.
The idea is to ride over Lamps Moss from Nateby via Keld and have coffee at Kearton Country Hotel in Thwaite. I have spoken to the proprietors and been informed that they are setting up an outside service (with tables) selling food and drinks. I have also spoken to the Police and they do not envisage traffic problems on our route.
Given the scale of the event I would still recommend you bring your own food and drink for lunch as we cannot guarantee any venues.

Ride Sunday 29th June

For those who intend to park in Cotehill (very few I assume) - please remember to steer clear of St John's Close, and also the part of the road immediately outside the village hall as the bus needs to reverse round.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

club run - Wednesday 25th June

The ride will be just under 60 miles.  Most of that will be in the afternoon.     The cafe at Newton Rigg College I have just learnt, stops serving lunch at 1.30pm so we will need to be there no later than 1.00pm.   The morning route will be shorter than I had intended.

The ride in the afternoon will go to Lazonby, Kirkoswald and and beyond.

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Post Easter Week!

That should of course read Post Easter Week !
I proof read the post but not the title.

Post Easter wee

Rachel has suggested that we look at Brunston  CastleLodges, www.brunstoncastle.net,
Claire and I have looked on the website and they look good. No en suites but they are fairly reasonable so it would be possible for anyone who wanted a bit more luxury to get a 2 bedroom lodge for themselves.  There is a guest house very nearby that has 4 ensuite rooms.
Mike thought the cycling looked good.

The earlier we book the more likelihood there is of getting a good deal.

Club Ride Sunday 15 June

Sunday's ride will leave Morrisons Car Park (Kendal) at 0930 and will be approximately 82 miles, taking in the Trough of Bowland. Please note that the store does not open until 1000, so the toilets will not be available.
If anyone wishes to do a shorter version of the route (still taking in the Trough of Bowland), they can meet us in Burton in Kendal at the Village Hall between 1030 and 1045. You can park on the Hall car park at a cost of £1 for the day, which we will collect and forward to their Treasurer. We will also return via Burton in Kendal. If you intend taking this option, would you please let me know in advance (01539 728617 or garnettgibbs@btinternet.com ) so that we will not be waiting unnecessarily.
The forecast is looking good and although the route is hilly, it is also very scenic.
On the Runs List 11s is down for Wray. This has been changed and will now be Catch 23 on Kellet Lane, Borwick. Lunch will be in Slaidburn and we will look to have afternoon tea in Wray.
Hope to see you Sunday,
Keith G.

Nice day for a picnic?

Ride to Ennerdale Water, Wednesday 11th June Elevenses: Coffee (and hopefully there might be toasted teacakes or scones) at Kirkstile Inn. Remember lunch is BYO so bring hamper for picnic at the lake.

Ride Sunday 8th June

In view of the dubious nature of tomorrow's weather we will go via Alston for early coffee and consider the route from there. Probably as planned with lunch in Allendale and a wide sweep across via Stonehouse to the South Tyne at Slaggyford and back maybe for tea at Alston? (60+)
