Car Wanted

After a replacement car for my son in Brighton. Budget £1000 for smallish  4 door petrol, engine size up to 1.6 litre. So obviously quite old but hopefully in good cared for condition. Do tell me if  you know of anything. Thanks - Les Meer

Wed alt cafe Abbott Lodge

Ian and I are bringing Simon and Avril to Abbott Lodge tomorrow.
Hope to meet some moderate riders.
Will try and get there by11 depending on the wind

Wednesday's Ride

Cathy and I recced the ride last week and found that there were sufficient refreshment stops on the route to make the BYO for 11's unnecessary.  We now plan to stop at Seathwaite for 11's and Torver for lunch (instead of Broughton in Furness).

For anyone daunted by Wrynose, it only takes a few more minutes to walk the ascents than ride them and the long descent from the top through Cockley Beck and down the Dutton Valley through Ulpha make it well worth while - not to mention the ride round the east side of Coniston. The ride is 50 miles in total.

If the conditions are looking hazardous an alternative route will be offered. I hope to see you tomorrow.

Watchtree Wheelers are planning to replace their entire fleet of 2 wheel bikes.   The bikes are hybrid mountain bike type Ridgebacks.   The bikes are 1yr old, in good condition, lightly used and are well maintained.   Also for sale is a Pashley trike.   This was donated 2 or 3 yrs ago, is in good condition and hardly used.     If interested, contact Ryan Dobson tel 077589 73529 or go to www.watchtreewheelers.co.uk

Something for next year?

This info might be useful if you want to entertain family/friends with or without bikes.
The bike-bus services started in July this year.
Wray Castle was opened to the public by National Trust in 2012.

Wednesday's ride

Looking forward to seeing folk Wednesday.

If the weather is poor, we can do fewer miles, but still manage both cafes!

Word of caution with regard to parking at Cotehill:

If you are going to park next to the village hall please leave enough room so that the bus can reverse around the corner (with hall on its left). Do not park along that road any further than the green gates (i.e. any further towards St John's Close). You might be better parking on the grass verge outside the village towards Armathwaite on the left - beyond St John's Close and beyond the church. In summary: keep away from St John's Close and their grass verges/drives.
A couple of people could park at Low Cotehill on the left of our lonning (make sure cars/tractors can pass). Go towards Wetheral and our lonning is at the bottom of the hill on the right.
If you are coming by car from the Carlisle area then I suggest you maybe park in Cumwhinton.

Good Value front light

I recently bought a new battery powered front light from amazon.

It came with no instructions but as you will see from the ad. it is cheap and extremely powerful.

With addition of a fresnel spreader lens it is more than adequate for riding at speed in total darkness.

Additionally it comes with charger battery pack and fittings for bars and as a head torch all for £15

Wiggo and me

You know you haven't seen much of your Chair recently. Well - I've been trying to recruit new members.............

A funny story

A little girl (let's call her Janice) was very good at English, so her teacher decided to set her a little challenge:

Teacher: "Janice, can you think of a situation where you would feel mixed emotions?"

Janice: (thinks for a while) "Yes. Watching the headmistress ride over a cliff on my new bicycle."

This is brilliant...!

BARGAIN REAR LED LIGHT

I've just bought a rear LED light at a bargain price.
The supplier Adventure Northumberland Ltd of Alnwick claim to have only 12 more for sale.
This link will take you to their Amazon sales site : -

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001Q8IOAI/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item

The unit is a bar construction that can be mounted on a rear rack or seat post and appears to be of a strong waterproof construction.

Club Photo sets

Some of the more observant of you will have noticed that the Photosets on the club's website have stopped working. This is because the links to various Picassa albums do not work any more and this has precipitated me into changing the Photo page. It uses out of date technology and I am anxious to replace this with a system that works  on computers, tablets and phones. (Like the pictures of the TriVets)

here are a couple to get you in the mood...

Paul planning a route near Shilbottle

wet....but it was the most direct!

I'm therefore going to need replacement photos! I have some but if you can supply pictures of Club Events or holidays with appropriate references I should be very grateful. Please do not send them to me by email! I can lend you a memory stick and at the same time give you an idea of the required resolution.

So get hunting for those pictures.
Here are a few rules of thumb to help selection
  1. 10-12 max of each event
  2. I can scan proper photos but...
  3. .jpg or .png  format, each picture 250kB max; 1090px max width or height.
  4. perhaps no more than five or six years old although it would be nice to have some 'historical ones' as well
  5. Not private holiday snaps (!) for the moment, but if they involve several of our members on a trip - fine.
The AGM might be a suitable time to let me know you have some or whenever you see me on a ride

Thanks in anticipation
