From Cycling uk vice chair re AGM

I don't know whether this came to me as sec. or if everyone has seen it but I post this in the blog anyway:

Dear Geoff

Following our national AGM earlier this month, I wanted to write to all member groups and affiliated member groups to keep you updated on key decisions which were made. As someone who took part in my first member group ride almost exactly 25 years ago, our member groups and affiliated groups are hugely important to me and I’m proud of the enjoyment our members get from rides and events organised locally through our groups.

Our AGM was well attended and we celebrated the excellent work we do across the UK and also debated a number of important motions.

While we had important motions to discuss at the AGM – for me our AGM was also an opportunity to consider, reflect and focus on our shared purpose – it is about the two year old child scooting along on their balance bike for the first time, or the student riding across town because it’s the best way to get around, or maybe the touring cyclist riding around the lanes for the day, or maybe the adventure touring cyclist dipping their wheels in the ocean ready to ride across the continent, or the commuter or leisure cyclist out for a 10 minute ride, or maybe someone riding their bike to the shops – and recognising that we support all of these things for people all ages and abilities whatever they ride.

At the AGM we discussed a number of motions relating to the way in which we operate and our policies on cycling within the UK. The motion which we rightly dedicated the most time to discuss was motion 5. This related to noting the report from the governance group, agreeing the changes proposed by Council and approving the changes to the Orders in Council of CTC. We discussed these changes in depth during the meeting. This motion was passed and what this means is we’ll now make a number of governance changes. These include agreeing and implementing a transition plan to a smaller body of Trustees elected from all of the UK rather than regions and we will also introduce a number of replacement Board sub-committees. Collectively these changes will allow us to work in the most effective way possible. We’ll provide further updates as necessary through our usual communication channels - Cycle magazine, CycleClips and our website.

You’ll be aware of our rebrand to Cycling UK last month. We are hugely proud of our history and heritage but recognised that our branding needed to better reflect the breadth of excellent work we do now, who we are and what we stand for. We consulted with around 13,000 of our members ahead of this change. Feedback at events and with Government has been hugely positive.

Support and guidance on the brand continues to be available from Head Office and should this be required please contact

I ended our AGM by asking members to pause and reflect back on their own cycling story, to think about the work we individually do and to consider the collective difference we can make. Let’s get started!

Thank you for your continued support and I’d welcome feedback from groups.  My contact details are below and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Dan
