CTC Lancaster &
South Lakes
Bowland Forest
Populaire: Sunday 28th April 2019
This year’s
Bowland Forest Audax Populaire, an annual cycle tourist event
organized by CTC Lancaster & South Lakes, is the 17th of the
series.
For 3 years now the
ride has been reorganized in order to join with the annual Scarecrow
Festival in Wray. The route was redesigned to start & finish in
Wray.
As last year the
route starts and finishes at the Village Institute, Wray – starting
at 09:00. The course circumnavigates the eastern section of the
Bowland Forest in an anticlockwise direction and is almost entirely
on minor roads.
The basic route
outline is:
Wray – Claughton –
Caton Green – Quernmore XR – 5 Lane Ends – Harrisend Fell –
Oakenclough – Bleasdale - Chipping
Whitewell – Dunsop
Bridge – Slaidburn – Tosside – Wigglesworth – Rathmell -
Eldroth – Keasden – Mewith Lane – Wray.
The event is open to
all cyclists and is approx. 102km / 64 miles long. It is not a race
and riders may take between 5 hours and
8 ½ hours to
complete the course.
There will be
marshaled checkpoints at both Chipping [42km] and Rathmell [80km]
plus 2 information checks [at 23km & 61km respectively]
Further details &
entry forms are available from Mike Hutchinson,
