Sunday 8th April - Club ride from Gretna

The ride will start from Central Avenue, Gretna at 9.30am.    The route will be fairly direct to Langholm.   We will not be going via Claygate because of additional problems with that road.    Because the distance to Langholm will be shorter than intended and relatively flat we will not stop for 11's.    The first stop will be lunch at Eskdalemuir (30miles)    The community cafe in Eskdalemuir is excellent with a fairly wide menu and reasonable prices.    From there we take a direct route to Boreland, Corrie Common and an afternoon tea stop at Cafe91 in Lockerbie.    We return to Gretna via Annan on roads less travelled.

The total distance will be 70 miles.   Most of the route will be hilly.    The met office forecast at the moment is for it to be dry and lightly overcast.

Directions to the start as follows:   From the M6 and Longtown, drive into Gretna to the roundabout at the entrance to Gretna Gateway outlet.   Leave the roundabout at the 2nd exit (signposted ANNAN and TOWN CENTRE)    Drive 400 metres approx and turn left at the traffic lights onto Central Avenue.     As you turn onto Central Avenue there are shops on the right.  Just beyond the shops there is a free car park on the left opposite Gretna Surgery.   Gretna Gateway outlet also has overflow car parks and there seem to be no parking restrictions.

There are no public toilets in Gretna other than those at Gretna Gateway outlet.

I hope the increased distance of the ride has not put too many of you off.   I hope to see a few of you at the start.
